YES YES YES! I woke up to the news of Spain winning in the morning. 1-0 against Netherlands. I didn’t manage to stay up for the match (yes fatigue won over my enthusiasm). But I heard that it was a pretty rough match between both sides but then it doesn’t matter because I’m sure both put in alot of effort!!

And of course, Paul the Octopus is right again! And he wins some bird from Singapore that predicted the win to Netherlands! (Which probably means a whole big bunch of people will be out to eat some octopus now!!)

Either way, it was a well deserved win! I heard that alot of the free kicks were wasted though because alot of the balls went over the net.

And my friend lost hundreds of dollars cause he betted that Spain would score a goal before the second half.

Now that world cup fever is over, I feel so empty!!!!!!

So I went to obsess about my country and I actually discovered this years National Day Song. (Yes, I’m very slow)

This was the very first song of hers that I actually heard. Its excellent. And Singapore is even mentioned in it! hahaha!

And then my mum told me she met Michelle Tay today. I had a hard time finding out her surname because when you type michelle in, michelle chong and michelle chia pops up! Because Michelle Tay doesn’t appear in much English shows.

Then it dawned on me, she’s famously called “Yi Da Li” (stands for Italy).

So pictures!!

She was filming together with Patricia Mok and a bunch of other contestants for some Giant show.

Anyway, she was extremely friendly and bubbly and cute and adorable and there are just simply infinite praises for her! She may be a celebrity in Singapore and a very good host and comedian, but she doesn’t let it get to her head.

Since I’m getting obsessed about Singapore, it seemed super appropriate that I blog about her! One of the Singaporean actresses that I actually admire because I think she’s super perseverent and she really is an extremely talanted host!

She recently appeared on “Can You Serve” which is a Channel 5 variety show where Singaporeans compete to be the best service provider. A very great show by the way because it shows you Singaporeans can code-switch from Singlish to perfect English. So very proud I am!

Anyway, she was superbly adorable! She appeared in episode 2 of the series. You can watch the series here. Its not a bad series I think. One of the few or only local productions that I actually watch.

So yea! If you see Michelle Tay (Yi Da Li) on the streets, please please feel free to talk to her (if she’s not busy of course) because she’s a super sweet person!

Now I wished I was at Giant and could talk to her. Damn. hahaha!

End of the patriotic Singaporean talk and YESSSSS SPAIN WON!!

In a horrible irritable wonderfully want to strangle someone’s neck mood right now.

I can’t believe about the blatancy of the term ‘make use’ in school.

 I can’t believe the cruel intentions.

I can’t believe that I’m stuck living in this section of the Earth when I’m always optimistic about the better of human nature.

Which person in the right of mind would actually be pissed off about me talking about monopoly.

What kind of person would just turn around to pretend to be my best friend when the word group work pops up.

Seriously, what’s happening to this world. And why am I filled in a cesspool of shit.

Spain better win the semis tonight. Paul the Octopus is the only one keeping my faith in the better beings now.

Happiness always seems a step too far.

Clarke Quay is the perfect place to bring a date, or to hang out after a hard day at work.

Just walking along Clarke Quay river gives you a sense of peace at night. The night view is beautiful and you can see people doing reverse bungee just a short distance away.

Unlike the past where Singapore River stank to the high heavens, having been entirely cleaned up, you are able to enjoy your walk peacefully.

Below are the photos of Clarke Quay being captured when it isn’t that late into the night, probably 6+ nearing 7pm.

Travelling along Clarke Quay, you see many restaurants and bars with a classy decor which allows you to relax in a comfortable ambience.

Below you see a bar labelled Forbidden City, with a very special entrance made of terra-cotta warriors.

Many shops line the path when you walk from Clarke Quay Central to Liang Court or anywhere else. You see people selling all different types of things.

The more interesting ones include: A place where you can pay to take photos with live snakes or touch them, a guy donned in an “angel” suit who will help you trim your eyebrows and provide you services like massage, a palm reading master who says he has thousands of palms and a magician performing tricks for passer-bys to admire.

If you’re a tourist visiting Clarke Quay, then maybe you can enticed to take a bump boat ride where your host will explain to you the various sites and sounds of Clarke Quay.

Or perhaps you would just sit along the river with your family, friends or loved ones, taking in the sunset or the night view of the magnificent Clarke Quay.

Clarke Quay, when lit up with all its fluorescent lights, is truly a breathtaking sight. (Ignoring the fact that those lights probably contribute to alot of pollution and would be more of a sight to behold when it was Earth Day and you see the lights turned off)

But it is an extremely nice place and you get glimpses of the mish mash that Singapore is, sometimes catching a street performer performing music for the couples that pass by.

Sometimes when overwhelmed with the rush of a city life, going to Clarke Quay in the night, when the pace seems slower, it takes your mind off alot of things.

And sometimes all you need is a slower pace of life to sort out your own. (:

Its been slightly over a month since Chinese New Year came and went but I neglected to update! So, I shall overcompensate by doing this entry with lots of photos and less of me talking!

I’ll split this post into 2 seperate ones because I don’t want it to be too long. This one is about the decorations around Singapore.

And tomorrow’s one is about the food I had! (:

But just foryour information, Chinese New Year fell on 14th February this year, which is the same day as Valentine’s Day! Everyone seems to think this is a big deal because you can’t spend it with your girlfriend/boyfriend. No difference to me! HAHA.

About 2 to 3 weeks before Chinese New Year, the decorations would already be put up at Chinatown and the hawkers will be out to sell their Chinese New Year goodies!

To fully experience the Chinese New Year experience in Singapore, Chinatown is definitely the place to visit!

You get the whole singaporean deal on the eve of Chinese New Year! Where thousands of singaporeans squeeze their way through Chinatown, attending the concerts which ends with firecrackers and fireworks!

As firecrackers are banned in Singapore, they only way to see a firecracker display and to immerse yourself in the atmosphere is to head over to Chinatown.

Opting not to squeeze with the crowds, we go there a week or so earlier! (:

The decorations and stage for the actual day of Chinese New Year in the process of being setted up. The view is much more amazing at night of course!

Below are some photos of the goods being sold at Chinatown. Mostly decorations and sweet treats which are sold at relatively reasonable prices.

The only food whose value gets really pushed up during Chinese New Year is probably BA GUA. I think its called bbq pork in English. Not really sure. Its the products sold in stores like Bee Cheng Hiant etc.

Nearing Chinese New Year and throughout Chinese New Year, the prices of Ba Gua can get really ridiculous. But people buy it anyway, its kind of like a festive thing.

But seriously, their jobs aren’t easy, cycling other people around in the hot sun sure is a hard living. i can’t even cycle myself, imagine if I had to cycle others. o.O

Somehow I think Japanese lanterns look better than the traditional Chinese lanterns. But then maybe I’m bored of seeing all those Chinese lanterns.

If you’re thinking to yourself, haven’t I seen this lady in quite a few pictures? Well just to clarify we weren’t stalking her or anything, but she’s MY MUM! hahaha.

Alright, these are the pictures taken in Chinatown. I think Chinatown is a very eclectic place, it has a mixture of alot of history in it I guess. You can find really interesting presents or souvenirs to bring home as well which is really cool.

And definitely, going to Chinatown gives you the feeling of a true Chinese New Year.

If only we had real cherry blossoms in Singapore! I bet the ones in Japan, are amazingly beautiful!

But what in the smanzies is this!??!?!?! Its like a few withering cherry blossoms with weird cubes with Chinese letters on them. Doesn’t make much sense!

And lastly, the decorations at the Chinatown food street! Which is opposite Maxwell Food Centre.

The street signs and many other signs! I like the red colour one. Low Crime doesn’t mean NO crime.Good slogan.

The other time I posted was Street of the Dead. This one tells you about Chinatown being a red lantern district in the past. Which means it was a place filled with prostitutes. Of course the government cleaned up the place and now only very clean businesses are there! (I couldn’t think of a better word then clean)

Theres not much decorations there but some of the stores sell really unique things. I saw this guy who moulds clay and he does it really well! He can do caricatures of you or of the merlion etc. And I heard alot of tourists approach him to do gifts for them to bring home.

Not really sure about the price but I do know you can purchase the clay! But that is provided you have the skill to do what he does. Hahaha.

Anger means a strong feeling of displeasure and belligerence aroused by a wrong. (as taken from dictionary.com)

Frustrated means disappointed; thwarted; dissatisfied.

You know how sometimes friends do stuff and they say ‘why are you so angry?’, ‘stop being angry’ blah blah blah all that bullcrap.

Frankly, I hate it when people tell me I’m angry. Because the real word is that I’m frustrated.

I don’t feel displeased by their actions. I simply feel disappointed.

And I think disappointment is a far heavier word in terms of emotions compared to simply being displeased.

Because you are disappointed only when you have hopes and you only have hopes for people you care about.

So this is really just a meaningless ramble.

But hopefully a rather educational one.

Words are very meaningful and should not be used lightly.

And on a very random note, I encourage everyone to play Sims 3. Its seriously addictive to the maximum and it is definitely a trillion times more realistic then the previous versions!! I mean are you kidding me?!?!?!? You even get to pick their traits, what they do at work blah blah blah. More interative, more fun and definitelyyyyyyy better graphics better gameplay better everything!

When I finally get a hang of it maybe I can take some screenshots to share.

But for now, BUY SIMS 3 PEOPLE!!

Anyway, the actual day of Christmas has come and gone. But I realised I had some pictures that I haven’t uploaded yet! So yea, here to share some of the pictures!

These were taken during the day of my Peranakan Museum Trip by the way. haha.

Mango Sago and I think my friend had White Fungus.

We had it at Ah Chew Dessert at Bugis. Its along the row of shops at Liang Seah street if I’m not wrong. There are dozens of food shops there, alot of them hotpot stores actually. So if you are craving for some sweet treats, you can try Ah Chew’s Desserts. Pricing is from $3.50 and above. Of course there are below $3.50.

It depends on whether you are buying a big bowl or a small bowl.

The mango sago is very nice, not too sweet. The only thing I didn’t like is that they put mini ice cubes in it because the mango sago was warm.

It interrupted with me eating the mango sago so I would prefer it if it was chilled in the fridge and not chilled with ice cubes added in.

However, they were generous with huge cubes of mango so all is forgiven. (:

My family is very much into the crabbing mood now!!

You can now buy humongous and delicious crabs from Giant and its wayyyyy cheaper then from a restaurant.

Crabs that huge, juicy and everything! Maybe I should ask my mum to do an entry on how to cook these crabs without losing the moisture.

Because you want your crab meat to be nice and tangy!

Just look at the colour of these freshly sliced sashimi!! We managed to get the salmon belly which is by far, the best part of the salmonn.

The texture was very smooth, the meat literally melts in your mouth. I didn’t know what melt in your mouth meant, now I know!

I never fail to rave about the place we bought it from. So once again, we bought it from the factory outlet so the prices are CHEAP!!

Its from 46 Woodlands Terrace, Fassler Gourmet. If you want to order party platters of sushi etc, you have to pre-order.

Apart from the amazing sashimi they offer at low prices, they also offer various soups like clam chowder, brocolli and cheese, ox tail soup and the likes of it.

They also have a wide selection of frozen fish like eel/unagi etc.

So do check the place out if you are a mad sashimi fan like me!!

Recently, my friend brought me to the Peranakan Museum! Frankly speaking, I didn’t even know one existed and after the whole wave of the local drama 小娘惹, I was pretty excited to find out more about the Peranakan tradition!

The Peranakan Museum has just been newly revamped and reopened only last year! So do check it out if you are interested! (:

                                  Tuesday to Sunday – 9.30am to 7pm (to 9pm on Friday)

Admission Charges: $6 for adults, $3 for full time students and those aged above 60 years. Free admission to visitors aged 6 years and below and also NYP students (me!!)!!

Very nice museum exterior, looks very much like a British building, extremely regal and grand on the exterior.

There are 3 stories in the whole place and a total of 10 galleries. You are allowed to take pictures without flash which is really appreciated by many I guess.

I didn’t really go in order from gallery 1 to gallery 10, so the pictures I post are really jumbled. Plus, I didn’t take photos everywhere I went.

If you feel intrigued by the photos in here, then maybe you would like to visit the place for yourself! (:

Sorry for the blur picture. This is a picture of the Ranjang Kahwain, known in English as the Wedding Bed. It’s built in the late 19th to early 20th century.

I like this bed alot, because the bed has alot of carvings around it which are really nice. Along the way, I saw alot of items with dragon carving and many others which were extremely intricate and nice.

Another thing to appreciate is the beadwork that hangs from the bed. Its very nice and this bed is usually found in the houses of wealthy Peranakans!

An interesting face about this bed, is that the person who donated it actually gave birth to 7 out of her 11 children right on this very bed!

Again, the carving on the mirrors are extremely intricate and very well built. Sturdy yet elegant is what describes alot of the Peranakn furniture we saw there.

Needless to say, beautiful craftmanship.

Proof that we were there! Haha.

Alot of the cutlery, like plates, cups, kettles etc used during the wedding were usually made of gold or silver which were very impressive and well made.

Some items which were handsewn which shows off how Perankans are very good at their beadwork and stitching.

Its truly amazing when you see for yourself how small those beads are and just imagine how much time and effort must have gone into making these little purses.

These are the items that the groom with give to the bride’s family as dowry. Pigs leg, jewellery, unused cloth, alcohol and oranges.

These items were picked to show that the groom was wealthy and able to support the bride and give her a good life.

In return, the bride is to give the groom’s family, clothes that were sewn using the unused cloth, beaded slippers, oranges and alcohol, thigh of a pig and jewellery!

These were used to bear the gifts during the wedding procession where the gifts, like the pig’s leg etc were exchanged between the families.

The 2nd picture, is known as a pagoda tray and it was crafted especially for a Peranakan family in Singapore!

Headgear and jewellery donned by the couple to get married. If you think it looks heavy, guess what? Its roughly around 1kg and sometimes it gets even heavier.

Forget about pre-wedding jitters, try wearing that thing on your head for a few hours. Not to mention, the tons and tons of jewelery!

A small interative corner, where you can dress the Peranakan family in two different sorts of attire.

As you can see, Peranakan homes actually look very much like the olden Chinese homes you would see in China where those rich officials lived.

Needless to say, Peranakans were considered the more wealthy race among others.

This was taken from the ‘dining area’ in the gallery. And in order for you to feel like you were really witnessing a real life Peranakan family’s dinner, the museum actually plays the sounds of a real Peranakan family dining. You can actually hear the chitter chatter of the family and the clanging of the plates!

The cutlery used by the Peranakans mostly have motifs of the phoenix on them. And as with all things Peranakan, the plates were very well made.

Baby clothes and booties which I found extremely adorable. They surprisingly had a Chinese ‘qipao’ look to them which I found intriguing.

Very old and ecletic phones used in the old days. When you pick up the receiver, you can hear actual Nonyas talking to you!

Headed over to the religion corner where I didn’t take pictures because I didn’t find it appropriate.

But one piece of exhibit I found extremely interesting was a Cathloic Altar.

Formerly a Daoist alter, when the family converted their faith to Catholicism, they actually added the painting of the Holy Family into the altar.

It was very very well built, there were dragon engravings on the altar with a painting of the Holy Family in the centre.

It was intriguing to note that Peranakans weren’t all Daoist, or Buddhish but several of them were Catholics as well.

I actually fell from this mighty fine looking flight of stairs!! I landed on my knees in a typical I’m asking for forgiveness position in front of two tourists!

I was madly ashamed and had to make a quick escape after that.

Guess the stairs didn’t appreciate the cam-whoring.

So we said byebye to the Peranakan Museum! (:

Just to end off with some interesting facts. There are actually many types of Peranakans!

There are Hokkien Peranakans, Jawi Peranakan etc.

And Dick Lee, the famous song composer in Singapore is actually a Peranakan as well! Who knew! (:

No wonder he is so well spoken. Ah well.

I finally turned 18 this year! And I had a couple of celebrations, but I decided to update the one with the most pictures! HAHA.

We went to Astons at Sembawang Shopping Centre as it was cheap, affordable, no service charge, good ambience and relatively good food! (:

To be frank, I’m not really sure about the price. But I know its within that range. Below $10 unless you order steak which is I think $13.90. Which is also insanely freakishly cheap!

While waiting for the food to arrive, we actually began to camwhore!

After eating and getting bored of camwhoring in Astons, we went outside to where they have this outdoor area for kids to play with all these funky water gear! And I think its a pretty pleasant spot to take photos because its rather scenic!

Proof that it is rather scenic! But not a good spot to date because firstly, all the people sitting at the outside area of Astons literally will eyeball you throughout your whole span of time there. And secondly, there are all these kids running around screaming MUMMY!!! KOR KOR HIT ME!!!

So yea, its a good spot for friends who love to camwhore though! Like us! (:

I began to get all oily and sweaty after camwhoring. Seriously, my fringe is the oiliest being on earth!

It didn’t use to be like that. Shit.

Needless to say, this blog is completely dead! Lack of updates due to really really busy school schedules!

Common tests coming up, have to choose which specialisation is best for me to go university, whether i should take advanced maths! All these decisions to make and sooooo little time.

I promise updates will come in 2 weeks when FINALLY common tests are over! and though the 2 weeks break is supposedly for doing projects, I’m pretty sure I can squeeze in time to blog!

For all the facades you hide behind, we see through them all. I don’t get why people have to stir up controversy. You should stick to your groups, stick to what you know. By leaving it up to fate, you’re simply saying, you don’t really care about your friends.

And that is even a greater sin then before.

Actually she was wearing sneakers but then someone had to borrow it from her because she had lab. HAHA. But it was really cool and funny anyway.

For laughing at her, she took her revenge on my pencil box!

She turned my pencil box into a vampire!!

Let me end of this entry with a picture of who this person with the weird shoes is! And who also tortured my pencil case!

My class randomly organised a street soccer match the other day and being a kind classmate that I am, I went down to support them. (:

It was PEOPLE I KNOW versus PEOPLE I DIDN’T KNOW!!

I sort of concluded that it was a coincidence they saw one team player there so they decided to ask if they wanted a match. So much for organising.

So introducing some of the soccer players…

My class monitor and the organiser of the soccer match. Don’t underestimate him cause he looks like a water buffalo kay, he heads the soccer ball like a bull!

His head is damn hard, I swear it gave off a bright KOKKKKKK sound when he headed into another player. Instead of the ball.

A guy not from my class but I know him from afar. Something like that.

He went into the game for 10 minutes then he had to swop out. In his own words, “I’M OLD ALREADY.”

And he is only 19 years old. Go figure.

This is the goalie who practically had NOTHING TO DO throughout the whole match. Except a few exciting moments.

The drama was always on the other side of the court.

Thats how great my class was. We kept the heat on the other side.

The two other players who haven’t been swopped in and one of them was practically ehhh.. not of practical use in the game. If you catch my drift.

The other one was rather good.

And then my fellow classmate who told me his leg was very solid and could kick very well.. but lets see what happened before the match began..

He sprained his ankle!!

This is the match in progress but for awhile we were more obsessed looking at…

The guy in the pink shirt! Cause he had braided hair which is kind of cool and cute. But then the guy himself wasn’t that fab.

Just the braids. But I don’t think i can stand guys with braids. Seems kind of… dirty? I don’t really know how to describe it.

They took a break because the ball kind of flew over the fence into the forest or something.

And amazingly after the break, they came back with 3 balls!

Not 1 not 2 but 3!

I have no idea why all those soccer balls were in the forest.

During the break we were abit bored so we became narcissistic again!

Seriously I’m a narcissist and overtly vain. Even my palm reading results said so. Damn it. HAHA.

Anyway, after that it started to drizzle and we ignored it but then it started to POUR.

And we were the idiots running in the rain.

In the end, we won the match 5-1. WOOHOO! we totally rocked it!
