I very much enjoyed Steve Weber’s Plug Your Book! Online Book Marketing for Authors, Book Publicity through Social Networking. Getting your book published, even as an ebook, is only part of the process. Marketing and publicizing will also be required and I can’t recommend Steve’s other book more highly for that side of the book publishing business. However, this book doesn’t rise to the same level as Steve’s previous book.
First of all, pricing an ebook at a higher price than the paper version seriously rubs me the wrong way. To do so on a book that is aimed at publishing ebooks is simply inexcusable.
If you are looking for solid advice on publishing ebooks, I recommend the following two books:
Publish Your Book On The Amazon Kindle: A Practical Guide — This book is real solid in describing what you need to do to get your book published, and is definitely the best value for the money.
and
Kindle Formatting: The Complete Guide To Formatting Books For The Amazon Kindle — This is probably the best book available for describing how to format your ebook.

This is a great basic book. However after reading Steve Weber’s book “Plug Your Book!” I expected a more in depth treatment. Maybe I’ve read too many book on related topics and would have been more impressed if this was the first book on the topic I read. Before publishing Snappy Sayings: wit & wisdom from the world’s greatest minds I read Steve Weber’s “Plug Your Book” and six or so others. I still refer to “Plug Your Book” as I market Snappy Sayings: wit & wisdom from the world’s greatest minds.
“ePublish” your book is a great book to get you started and Steve Weber is a real credit to the industry.

Steve Weber has done it again. He provides an amazing amount of helpful information and links for writers/authors/self-publishers interested in publishing ebooks for mobile and Kindle formats. He also provides a lot of helpful advice about Amazon, blogging, Google, and your own web site. I think I highlighted every line of this book. A lot of his advice is very practical and useful and easy to implement. I just used the book to upload my ebook to Smashwords and to Kindle. This book will save you a lot of time in figuring out all the right moves to publish an ebook and market it well. — Jamieson Haverkampf,

Steve Weber’s new book ePublish is a great source of information for the new and upcoming forms of electronic publishing. Let’s face the fact. More and more people prefer electronic versions of books. Amazon’s new Kindle is definitely paving the way. I was unaware of other forms of electronic publishing, i.e. mobipockets.
Here’s the table of contents of the book:
Introduction
Dive into Electronic Text
Publish to the Kindle Store
Target the Mobile Reader
Give it Away and Prosper
Ready, Aim, Format!
Weave Your Web
Wag the Long Tail
Rise Above the Noise
Graduate to Print
Write off Your Expenses
I tried to sell a Kindle edition of my book “Learning Foreign Languages,” but I hadn’t received any money for the copies that had been sold. So I canceled it. After reading this book, I know why I hadn’t been paid. I’m still a little hesitant to jump on the Kindle band wagon. I like to wait and see if there are any flaws or setbacks that come with new devices.
I think having a website is the best idea for any author/publisher. I’ve never had any luck with my old website because I had difficulty with GoDaddy. I’ll probably register my next domain with somebody else.
Weber is right when he says to give your book away. If you’re promoting your book online, you have to give away many copies. I’ve heard that you have to give away as many as 300 to really make an impact. He describes how some may be fearful that their work will be pirated if it’s available in electronic form. But sometimes pirated forms can generate more sales. (Nobody really wants a pirated copy of anything.)
Another interesting part of the book is the part where he talks about OpenOffice Writer. I’ve been using MS Word to format my books, and I’ve never had a serious problem with it. If this other word processor has a Save As PDF function, I may get it.
I found this book to very informative on e-publishing. However, I don’t own a Kindle or an iPhone. I guess I prefer paperbacks. Even if I did have an electronic version of a book, I would still want a physical copy that I could read while I’m sitting in a chair.
